Discussions around Garden Tasks
  • Hoses - everyone felt they were still in good shape
  • Compost - Town doesn’t have enough for all the gardens, suggest getting own supply or going in with others to split costs.
  • Green space - please keep this area clean around perimeter of garden.
  • Rock/Compost pile - use this at rear of garden for non-diseased weeds and rocks.
  • Rototilling - A few folks are not in favor of this; suggested calling Delia Kaye of Natural Resources to voice opinion. Possibility for plots in rear of garden not to be rototilled - dependent on NR Dept. and Delia Kaye. Date TBA.
  • Maintenance
    • Weeds: keep those in your plot, paths and surrounding area under control.
    • Mowing: Frank Canon has weed wacker in his shed, please borrow when weeds are too long.
    • Work Day: April 9th at 9am - see everyone then! Please come and clean up your plots from rocks and sticks and put in a pile in the rock/compost area in back of garden. This helps with rototilling.
  • Perennial areas
    • Cousins Garden doesn’t have enough plots to offer perennial plots to Gardeners but we did create several perennial plots in the back that will not be rototilled, that contains the rhubarb and asparagas. Our guests, Mark and Pamela Hanson have kindly offered some of their perennials to share (thanks Mark and Pamela!), to go in here. We’ll need some coordination and effort to get these plants transferred over here. There was also discussions around an herb garden area, and if everyone’s amenable, this may be a good spot for the plot behind the Fells’ plot. Lastly, we talked about a field trip to their Conantum Community Garden and after talking to Mark and Pamela, we will set a date for that in the not too distant future. More to come on that soon...
  • Berry Coops Participants
    • Email Barbara P. for more details for plans (bbpike@aol.com)
    • Email Margaret G. for more details for plans (margaret.guertin@comcast.net)
  • Unclaimed spaces
    • Better to have it planted than not, to keep the weeds down. There will not be any unclaimed spaces, due to the wait list and the perennial areas to be planned out/planted.
  • Discussions - (things to bring up with Nat. Res. marked NR)
    • Several folks would like the garden tilled earlier. However, we are dependent on the Towns schedule as to when this gets done. (NR)
    • Suggestion of another barrel to be added at the front of the garden. (NR)
    • Signage need to be made for rock/compost area
    • A shed was suggested to be built for the back of the Garden - this would be something we’d need to purchase and construct ourselves, if possible at all. (NR)
    • Discussions from the Hanson’s about topics for next Fall for Gardeners. Mark and other volunteers will compile topics as well as have guest speakers come to speak most likely at the Concord Main Public Library. More on that to come...
    • Another Fedco Seed order has been opened, see my email on 3/17 for more details.
    • WC Green Thumbs flyer for the hanging baskets was handed out by Helene C. Please help if you can.
Thanks for coming!
